Meet the Untangle Senior Management Team
Our company was founded to help organizations with limited budgets and IT resources untangle the complexity of connecting to the internet safely. Today, Untangle’s leadership remains committed to that vision of bringing powerful network security to small-to-medium business.
Scott Devens is Untangle’s Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. Scott brings more than 25 years of executive leadership from the security, data integration/middleware and storage industries. Prior to joining Untangle, Scott held various senior executive roles with Core Security, Courion, Talend, IONA Technologies, and Data General/EMC. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Nichols College. Scott also serves on the board of Building Conversation, an early stage Boston-based augmented reality company.
When he’s not summiting El Capitan or off-roading in Baja, Dirk Morris spends his time as the founder and engineering visionary behind the Untangle network gateway platform. Prior to Untangle, Dirk was Chief Architect at Akheron Technologies, where he invented the patent-pending High Bandwidth Transparent Vectoring used in the company’s proxy firewall engine. He has also held positions as lead engineer at VerticalNet and H.L.L.C. Consulting, developing Java-based distributed monitor and intrusion detection systems. Dirk earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. He worked on survivability simulations at CERT/CC (Computer Emergency Response Team), the University’s renowned, federally funded Center for Internet security.
Finance and operations executive Lori Booroojian leads the “behind the scenes” enterprise resource planning for Untangle. Lori joined the company in 2012 as its controller. Prior to Untangle, Lori consulted for small start-up companies and was employed at Adaptec, Inc. Before her industry experience, she was a CPA at Arthur Andersen. As a passionate advocate in her community, Lori was named Volunteer of the Year for her work with Project Cornerstone’s Asset Building Champion, an anti-bullying advocacy group assisting underprivileged youth. Lori also served on the Board of Trustees for Moreland school district for 12 years, with eight of those years as Board President. Lori earned a Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Accounting from Santa Clara University. Lori is an avid hiker and enjoys spending time in the many regional parks and wilderness spaces of the Bay Area.
Timur Kovalev serves as the CTO at Untangle and is responsible for driving technology innovation and integration of gateway, endpoint, and cloud technologies. Timur brings over 20 years of experience across various technology stacks and applications. Prior to joining Untangle, Timur headed up Client and Threat Intelligence Technology at Webroot, where he led development of desktop and mobile solutions, cloud intelligence services, and research automation systems. Prior to Webroot, Timur was responsible for design and development of dynamic network communication architecture for medical devices at Dräger Medical Systems. Before that, he developed software for patient monitoring, imaging, and secure medical data delivery solutions at Siemens. Timur holds a dual bachelor degree in Computer Science and Electrical, Computer & Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Amy Abatangle is Untangle’s Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to that, Amy held several roles at Untangle including General Manager of NG Firewall & IC Control and Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Before joining Untangle, Amy was a leader in web development, digital marketing, e-commerce and sales operations at companies including Apple, Oracle, Women.com and VeriSign. Amy holds a B.A. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an M.A. from Columbia University in the City of New York where she was a doctoral fellow.
