Version 1.2 Highlights

Untangle SD-WAN Router Version 1.2 includes improvements to the UI and functionality as well as several fixes.

WAN Highlights

  • WAN rules are followed for traffic initiated from SD-WAN Router improving VPN and connection failover
  • Default actions for all rules are based on each rule type for easier configuration of rules (WAN Rule defaults to “WAN Policy”, Filter Rule defaults to “Drop”, Access Rule defaults to “Accept”, etc.)
  • WAN Routing Report shows WAN rule where previously showing “cache” improving report readability

VPN Improvements

Improvements to VPN functionality providing ease of administration and monitoring of connections in real time.

  • OpenVPN configuration updates take effect immediately
  • Improved detection of OpenVPN tunnel status
  • VPN interfaces show IP address
  • VPN interfaces can be removed

Administration Enhancements

  • Factory reset capability
  • “Suggest idea” button available in administration

Version 1.1 Highlights

Untangle SD-WAN Router Version 1.1 is the first major software release for SD-WAN Router. Untangle SD-WAN Router is a lightweight network edge router. It provides the ability to route traffic over a Software Defined Network with key SD-WAN features such as multiple VPN links between sites, Policy-based routing, and Dynamic Path Selection based on network conditions.

Application-based Routing

  • Untangle SD-WAN Router makes first packet routing decisions, based on specific application or categories of network traffic.

WAN Optimization

  • Traffic shaping and Quality of Service prioritizes business critical traffic across WAN Links.

Real-time Link Performance Monitoring

  • Jitter, packet loss, latency and throughput of each link are continually measured to ensure applications can be routed over the best performing links for their needs.

Dynamic Path Selection

  • Routing decisions are made in real-time based on actual current link performance of packet-loss, latency and jitter conditions, as well as available bandwidth.

Multiple Internet Pathways

  • Multiple WANs as well as LTE connectivity can be used as primary or failover links. Application based routing can optimize performance over LTE and hard-wired links.

Configurable Performance Thresholds

  • Routing can be configured at the application level with failover conditions specified using limits for desired maximum packet loss, or latency thresholds.

Automated Link Failover

  • Network traffic will be routed to the next best performing link when a link fails, or fails to meet performance requirements.

Zero Touch Provisioning

  • Network administrators can remotely set up and configure Untangle SD-WAN Router without having to be on site. Automatic upgrades ensure all appliances are kept up to date with the latest security updates and enhancements.

Centralized Management

  • One or many SD-WAN Router appliances can be managed from Untangle’s cloud based Command Center, accessible from any browser. Full visibility of all deployments enables administrators to view appliance network status, important events, reporting data and push global configuration.

Untangle SD-WAN Router is available as a hardware deployment using our eSeries performance-optimized appliances, or use your existing infrastructure with a virtual appliance running on a hypervisor. All future versions are made available for free for current licensed installations.
