The Untangle Gateway Platform and applications are licensed under the GNU Public License v2 (GPLv2), which means its free to use, modify, and distribute. The code in "api" is licensed under GPLv2 plus the linking exception to allow for non-GPL compatible licensed applications to be loaded into the platform. The GPL software is free as in freedom and free as in beer.

The optional Professional Package code (containing Remote Access Portal, Policy Management, AD Integration) is licensed under a proprietary Untangle License . For clarity, this code is not mixed in the public GPL-code repository. This software is not free.
